Sign up for a Women Pivoting to Digital Taskforce webinar, where a panel of experts will provide practical insights into applying skills-based hiring approaches and highlight the valuable transferable skills women bring -- often overlooked by traditional recruitment practices.

With many UK employers facing talent shortages and the acceleration of the use of AI in recruitment by candidates and hiring managers, traditional hiring models are under pressure. Skills-based hiring is the solution to outdated recruitment practices – this approach prioritises a candidate's skills and competencies over traditional qualifications like degrees or past job titles.

Despite having a wide-variety of skills and experience, women currently make up only 25% of the digital workforce. At the same time, the rapid adoption of AI in recruitment both by candidates and hiring managers is reshaping hiring processes and some candidates, particularly women, with valuable transferable skills may be overlooked. This represents a huge opportunity for employers to rethink traditional hiring models and recognise the breadth of transferable skills already present in the workplace.

A skills-based approach focuses on the full range of abilities and skills a person brings, unlocking potential and expanding the talent pipeline to address the talent shortages in digital roles.

We invite you to join this webinar to hear from industry leaders and take part in a practical, insightful conversation on how your team can implement skills-based hiring.

Speakers:

This session will be moderated by Alexandra Sheller, a Financial Services executive with over 20 years of experience at institutions like JPMorgan Chase, across segments including sell-side markets, custody, insurance, traditional and alternative asset management.

Alexandra will be joined by a panel of leaders from the Financial Services Skills Commission (FSSC), Finastra, and Opencast, who bring diverse perspectives on workforce transformation, skills development, and new ways of hiring talent. Together, they’ll share examples from their own organisations on implementing skills-based hiring models.

What you’ll learn:

  • A clear understanding of the benefits and challenges of adopting a skills-based hiring approach
  • Insight into identifying and assessing transferrable skills in women from non-technical backgrounds
  • Practical tools and frameworks to assess skills over traditional experience

Why attend?

This is an opportunity to learn how skills-based hiring can help close the digital skills gap, future proof your workforce and create new pathways into digital roles for hires outside the traditional digital talent pool.

This webinar is the first in a monthly series running through to May 2026. Information on future webinars will be posted on the City of London Corporation’s LinkedIn
