Event description
This workshop aims to separate fact from hype, explore blockchain’s use cases and insights gained from early implementations

About this Event

Considered as one of the most disruptive technologies, the blockchain (a peer-to-peer distributed data infrastructure) enables the creation of decentralised currencies (e.g. Bitcoin), self-executing digital contracts (smart contracts) and intelligent assets that can be controlled over the internet (smart property).

While the technology has advanced steadily over the past few years and its business potential have been actively explored in various sectors, we are yet to see large scale deployment in practice, largely due to its complexities, the challenges it presents to industries, investors and policy makers, and lack of clarity of its value to organisations.

This workshop aims to separate fact from hype, explore blockchain’s use cases and insights gained from early implementations and the potential of blockchain to address economic and social challenges.

This is the first workshop on blockchain across Cardiff University. Via this workshop, we hope to facilitate cross-disciplinary research dialogues and collaboration between different academic disciplines and with private, public and third sector organisations.

There will also be a light buffet provided and networking opportunities throughout.

Datgloi potensial Blockchain, Dr. Yingli Wang, 18 Tachwedd 2019

Mae blockchain (seilwaith data wedi’i ddosbarthu gan gymheiriaid) yn cael ei ystyried yn un o’r technolegau mwyaf aflonyddgar, ac mae’n galluogi pobl i greu arian datganoledig (e.e. Bitcoin), contractau digidol sy'n hunan-weithredu (contractau clyfar) ac asedau deallus y gellir eu rheoli dros y rhyngrwyd (eiddo clyfar).

Er bod y dechnoleg wedi cynyddu’n raddol yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf a bod ei photensial o ran busnes wedi’i harchwilio mewn amryw o sectorau, nid ydym wedi gweld defnydd ymarferol ar raddfa fawr eto, yn bennaf oherwydd ei chymhlethdodau, yr heriau y mae’n ei chyflwyno i ddiwydiant, buddsoddwyr a llunwyr polisïau, a diffyg eglurder o ran ei werth i sefydliadau.

Nod y gweithdy hwn yw gwahanu'r ffeithiau oddi wrth y cyffro, archwilio achosion defnydd blockchain a mewnwelediadau a gafwyd o achosion cynnar o'i ddefnyddio, a photensial blockchain i fynd i’r afael â heriau economaidd a chymdeithasol.

Hyd y gwyddom, dyma’r gweithdy cyntaf ar blockchain ar draws Prifysgol Caerdydd ac o’n gwaith gyda gwahanol bartneriaid diwydiannol/cyhoeddus, gwyddom fod yna frwdfrydedd mawr yn y maes cyffrous a newydd hwn. Gan ein bod yn medru ymgysylltu â nhw’n uniongyrchol bydd hwn yn cefnogi ein hymchwil bellach yn y maes hwn ac yn arwain at waith ymchwil posibl ar y cyd â chwmnïau sy’n cymryd rhan. Mae hefyd yn helpu i ddatblygu enw da Prifysgol Caerdydd fel canolfan arweiniol ymchwil blockchain yn y DU.

I gael rhagor o wybodaeth am gyfrannu at y digwyddiad neu am fynd i’r digwyddiad, cysylltwch â Dr Yingli Wang, WangY14@caerdydd.ac.uk
