Event description

Description

Scotland's canals played a defining role in the history of the Industrial Age of Great Britain and Ireland, and each has a fascinating and unique history. Join the Canal Cultural Heritage Officer from Keep Scotland Beautiful on a 2-hour guided walk to explore the social and industrial history of Edinburgh’s Union Canal. The canal opened in 1822, as a 32 mile-long uninterrupted 'contour canal' from Edinburgh Quay in the heart of the capital to the Falkirk Wheel.

The walk is approximately 5km and is on mainly flat ground with one staircase.
