Event description

Description

The NIHR Surgical Med Tech Co-operative supports the development of medical technologies in the fields of colorectal, vascular and hepatopancreaticobiliary (liver, gall bladder and pancreas/HPB) surgery to improve healthcare and quality of life for patients.

The workshop will explore opportunities for collaborative research, and identify key areas that could be further developed into funding applications. We believe this would be timely given the UKRI strategy to promote multidisciplinary working and the development of a new research strategy for the School of Medicine.

The workshop will include presentations from clinicians who will outline the major clinical challenges related to gut diseases. Confirmed speakers include: Professor Philip Quirke, Professor Lesley Houghton, Professor David Jayne, Professor Mark Hull and Professor Jurgen Schneider.

The talks will be followed be a series of group discussions with invited physical/discovery scientists from across the University (including MAPS, Engineering and Biological Sciences) to explore interdisciplinary research opportunities and relevant funders including UKRI, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

Details of venue on main campus and agenda will be released shortly.
