Event description

Description

"It is a principle innate and co-natural to every man to have an insatiable inclination to the truth, and to seek for it as for hid treasure" - so wrote young Edinburgh student Thomas Aikenhead who, later that day, became the last person to be executed for blasphemy in Britain.

Edinburgh author Dilys Rose will be discussing her 2017 novel Unspeakable, which imagines the life of Aikenhead amid the religious intolerance of 17th Century Scotland. Join us at the Amnesty Bookshop in Marchmont where Dilys will be helping us to toast our first birthday by delving into the local history of freedom of expression.
