Event description
‘Why do you break our bones when God sculpted them with love.’

About this Event

Exploring a part of Irish history that is too often hidden and riddled with shame, UNVEILED brings the harrowing stories of the Magdalene Laundries to life through five characters who embody the different forms of physical, sexual and emotional abuse experienced by countless Irish women at the hands of the Catholic Church: Mother Ignatius, the callous, domineering head nun of the Good Shepherd Convent; Theresa, a survivor of the laundries who has been heavily institutionalised by Mother Ignatius' abuse; Immaculata, a rebellious 17 year old whose fury fuels her fight for freedom; Rose, who is deceived by the nuns into giving up her baby; and Mairead, a timid orphan who has grown up with no concept of life outside reformatories.
