Event description

Description

Pakistan celebrates its 70th birthday this year and we firmly believe it is one of the most exciting destinations out there.

Although often in the news for all the wrong reasons, Pakistan is in fact an adventure traveller’s dream destination. With a fascinating history dating back to the Indus civilisation of the fourth millennia BC, a warm, varied and hugely hospitable population, a fast improving infrastructure and the most impressive mountain landscapes anywhere on earth, it is a country that is sure to impress even the most experienced traveller.

Join WF MD Jonny Bealby, food writer and author Sumayya Usmani and journalist and broadcaster Peter Oborne as we delve behind the misconceptions of this wonderful country.

Born and raised in Karachi Sumayya is recognised by BBC Good Food as the UK’s ‘go-to’ expert for Pakistani cuisine. She is passionate about Pakistan’s rich culinary heritage and seeks to share its distinct flavours along with the influence of its culture and heritage. Her first memoir cookbook on Pakistani cuisine ‘Summers Under the Tamarind Tree’ was published in 2016. Peter is a true Pakiphile and has just returned from his third quirky cricket tour of the country. He wrote ‘Wounded Tiger: A History of Pakistan Cricket’, is associated editor at The Spectator and was the chief political commentator of the Daily Telegraph.

We will shortly be announcing a new culinary tour of Pakistan, hosted by Sumayya – details of which will be exclusively launched at this event.
