Event description

Description

This is a teaching and learning CPD event in the form of a mini symposium. The event will be led by internationally renowned speaker Paul Collard, Chief Executive of Creativity Culture and Education, the International Foundation for Creative.

It will take place in one of the historic lecture theatres at New King’s College, University of Aberdeen. It is an opportunity to hear about how and why creativity is important for employability and teaching practice in the 21st century. There will also be a workshop element during which attendees will be able to share their own ideas and make connections for future work.

The event will link themes of developing the young workforce with creativity and interdisciplinary learning. This is set against the background of the downturn in oil and the need for Aberdeen to reinvent and regenerate itself and develop the skills and opportunities for the next generation in response to a growing and urgent need to diversify the economy to ensure economic sustainability.

As well as a plenary lecture from Paul Collard, there will be several short vignettes including examples of innovative pedagogical practice and practical ideas from across Aberdeen.

The event will seek to begin to address questions of what creativity looks like in a variety of contexts and how is it relevant to developing the young workforce. It will include a structured workshop element including provocations designed to encourage attendees to make connections, reflect on the presentations and begin to formulate plans for future actions and activities.

This event is jointly hosted by Aberdeen City Council Creative Learning Team, UoA School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture and the School of Education. It funded by the National Creative Learning Network and is part of a series of Aberdeen Creative Schools Network events.

This event is aimed at primary and secondary teachers, probationary teachers and students as well as industry professionals with an interest in creative learning and workforce development.
