Welcome to the University of Essex Launch Festival 2018!

The Launch Festival is brand new for this year and is made up of numerous performances, displays, readings and much more!

Students have been working on their projects for many months now as these are assessed pieces of work all leading up to these few days!

Please be aware that for ALL performances, there is a strict no latecomer policy.

On the Wednesday, the main house (and other) performances are -

13:30-15:15 - Louise Day, Laura Dixon, Ruby Mcilroy, Georgia Sturmer, Eleanor Barker - 'Be My Baby'

Set in a Mother and Baby Home in 1964 in the north of England, the play follows the fortunes of Mary Adams, aged 19, unmarried and seven months pregnant. Forcibly sent there by a mother intent on keeping up appearances, Mary – along with the other girls in the home – has to cope both with the shame and the dawning realisation that she will have to give the baby up for adoption whether she likes it or not. Despite this, and an overbearing matron, the girls’ youthful effervescence keeps breaking through, as they sing along to the girl-group songs of the period.

16:00-17:00 - Nicole Gavin, Riordan Deegan - 'Days of Wine and Roses'

A young couple are looking to make a fresh start in 1960s London, but face great challenges when their thoughtless actions get the better of them.

19:15-20:15 - Osian England, Emily Wood - 'Constellations'

"But if everyone did it if everyone could actually lick the tips of their elbows, then there'd be chaos. Because you can't just go on living and living and living."

Nick Payne's award-winning play tell's the story of Boy meets girl. Boy meets girl again. And again. And again. And again.

Come and see Marianne (Emily Wood) and Roland (Osian England) in an infinite number of possibilities.
