Event description

Description

Yarl’s Wood is an immigration detention centre for migrant women awaiting deportation from the UK. Over 400 women are indefinitely detained, most of whom have experienced rape, domestic violence, torture, forced marriage, sexual abuse, FGM or persecution due to sexuality.

Many of these women have been in the UK for most of their lives. Many have children; some are pregnant, elderly, disabled, sick and have mental health difficulties.

Yarl’s Wood has been countlessly exposed in undercover investigations, government reports and inquiries for sexual abuse and harassment by guards towards the women. Undercover footage by Channel 4 news showed the brutal, racist attitude of the guards (link below gives an idea of what goes on).

We will be leading a group from Nottingham University either by public transport or private coach (depending on numbers) to return on the same day.

Join us on the 18th November to protest these detentions, and show our politicians that we are against the inhumane treatment of innocent people seeking asylum from horrific circumstances.
SHUT DOWN YARL’S WOOD FOR GOOD AND #SETHERFREE!
