Event description

Description

This event is the public launch of our commitment to the Race Equality Charter and is part of the University Black History Month programme.

In July 2018 the University signed up to the Race Equality Charter, a robust and challenging national scheme which aims to tackle race inequality across the HE Sector. Run by Advance HE, the Race Equality Charter aims to improve the representation, progression and success of minority ethnic staff and students within higher education.

The event will be opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Graham Galbraith. The keynote speaker is Dr Deborah Gabriel, Founder and Director of Black British Academics and Co-Chair of Bournemouth University's Race Equality Charter Steering Group. Her presentation is entitled "Embedding Intersectionality into Gender Equality Initiatives: Developing a Critical Race Strategy for Equality and Social Justice."

Dave Small and Lesley Lee from the University Equality and Diversity Team will share detailed information on the Race Equality Charter process, the challenges and opportunities and the approach we will be taking here at Portsmouth.

You can talk about the launch on social media using #RaceCharterUoP.
