Event description

Description

In this workshop we'll give fabric remnants from the Kalopsia Collective and materials from the Edinburgh Scrap Store a new lease of life, transforming them into fabulous and functional hardback journals.

First up we'll use stamps and inks to create bold designs on some locally produced linen fabric (donated by Kalopsia), which we'll use to wrap our covers. Next up we'll arrange our pages and bind our books using a nifty french link stitch incorporating tweed off cuts to add a splash of colour and texture.

We'll be using recycled paper to fill our books too, demonstraiting how pre-loved materials can be reused and repurposed to great effect!

You'll leave the workshop with a one-of-a-kind A7 journal and the skills to make many more (just in time for Christmas).

This workshop is being run as part of OCTAVO FIKA - a creative book exhibition, coordinated by Kalopsia as part of Book Week Scotland. The exhibition will feature artists, designers, photographers, writers and poets - all expressing their own individual practice in book form. The workshop will take in Ocean Terminal in the OCTAVO FIKA exhibition space, which used to the the RBS unit. Details of how to find the space will be sent in advance of the workshop.
