Upgrading the human operating system: from Ego to Unity-Consciousness
Sat 13 May 2017, 09:30 – 13:00 BST
An experiential workshop providing tools and explanations for accessing and awakening to the vast, innately intelligent and open hearted reality of our deeper nature.
These are challenging times. In our personal lives we need to navigate the multiple stresses of making a living and finding time to do the things that feel meaningful. At a collective level we're faced with huge challenges: climate change, mass extinction of species, social unrest and economic inequality.
How do we cope with all this? Try to distract ourselves as best we can? Or do we get burnt out from trying too hard and caring too much?
This workshop is based on a couple of premises:
i) That on a personal level the pressures of these times carry an opportunity - that of shifting beyond the mistaken identity of the small, ego-based identity into the vastness and deeper knowing of Unity-Consciousness.
ii) That this level of consciousness represents a new operating system for our daily lives from which we can function wisely, effectively and joyfully in the world today to meet these challenges.
In the past unity-consciousness or Non-Dual Awareness has been framed as the preserve of mystics, gurus and renunciants that can be accessed only through rigorous training and discipline. Today there is a movement of contemporary teachers seeking to democratise and reframe this consciousness as being part of everyone's natural potential that is available to people in their everyday busy modern lives. Rather than being an exalted state attainable by the select few, this awareness is recontextualised as the next developmental stage for humanity, that empowers us to rise to the challenges of our particular times.
This workshop will start with conventional Mindfulness practices and then move into an exploration of going beyond them into Awakening practices and exercises that facilitate Unity-Consciousness. The assertion for this workshop is that glimpses of our innate awakened, non-dual nature are readily available for everyone through 'pointing out instructions.' In this context the focus is on shifting the place from which one identifies rather than long hours of sitting meditation.
The workshop will enable you to:
cultivate glimpses of our innate, spacious, effortless and naturally intelligent reality.
experience the relaxation, open-heartedness and connection afforded by these glimpses
begin a journey to infuse your everyday life with these qualities
do both mindfulness and 'innate mindfulness' practices and understand the difference between them.
learn a variety of approaches so you can find what approach to this most suits you
This 3½ hour workshop will led by Andy Paice, ex-Buddhist monastic, Mindfulness teacher, coach and facilitator. Andy lived in a monastic community of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition (and a Buddhist university in India) from '98 until 2009, he then became interested in the work of contemporary western teachers that were innovating new approaches to awakening such as Zen master Genpo Roshi and more recently Loch Kelly. This workshop will draw on these influences. Having extensively experimented with and practised them it's now his desire to share his knowledge and experience of these innovations.
The format will be experiential, non-religious and non-belief based, presented in straightforward language. It will include 'pointing out instructions' and short guided practices rather than long periods of sitting meditation. There will be group discussion and playful activities to integrate this deeper consciousness into everyday situations.
The workshop is suitable for anyone who is curious to find out more (even if you are a complete newbie), learn new approaches to meditation or wishing to deepen their existing practice.
