Bring along a drop-in seat chair, plus fabric to recover it. You’ll renovate it using traditional upholstery tools and materials under the guidance of our tutor Geraldine Gunner, a teacher with 20 years of teaching experience and owner of Wellhead Upholstery. As the classes have a maximum of six students you will receive plenty of one-on-one advice and guidance.
You'll learn how to build up a seat pad using webbing, coconut hair, hessian, linterfelt and calico. You will go home with a finished seat plus a range of new upholstery skills.
A drop-in chair is where the seat pad can be pushed out of the chair or stool frame. If travelling light, just bring the pad, and to save time on the day we ask you strip it back to the wood in advance. Please make sure that your piece of furniture is sturdy, as we won’t have time for major structural repairs.
Also bring enough fabric to cover the seat pad. Ideally your fabric should be of upholstery quality, however, simple drop in seats are quite forgiving.
Refreshments, lunch and traditional upholstery tools and materials such as calico, hessian and hair will be provided on the day, and are included in the price.
And if you can’t find a suitable piece of furniture to bring with you, let us know as we can provide one. But we find once you mention upholstery, it's amazing how many friends or family are interested in having their furniture brought back to life!
