Are toilets available?

Yes, there are toilets, including an accessible toilet, in the visitor centre adjacent to the mill

Question 2

Can I park on the windmill field?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when conditions permit.  When the field is too wet, please use alternative car parks at the Windmill Hall or Upminster Town Centre.  Special arrangements apply for Blue Badge holders, see separate FAQ.

Is there a café?

Accepted Answer

New for 2024, we offer tea and coffee and a range of packaged snacks from a refreshment stall.  We are working to enhance and extend this offering for the future.

Is wheelchair access possible?

Accepted Answer

The visitor centre and ground floor of the mill are accessible by wheelchair.  A screen on the ground floor allows viewing of some of the machinery on the upper floors.

Question 5

Are there special parking arrangements for Blue Badge holders?

Accepted Answer

Yes, blue badge holders may drive up the gravel track and park outside the visitor centre.

Question 6

Can I reach you by public transport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we are a 10-15 minute walk from Upminster and Upminster Bridge stations, and bus routes 248 and 370 stop on St Mary's Lane outside the mill

Question 7

Is there somewhere to lock my bicycle?

Accepted Answer

Yes, there is a rack for several bicycles just outside the mill.

Question 8

Are dogs admitted?

Accepted Answer

Sorry, dogs cannot be admitted to the windmill or visitor centre, except for service dogs.  Due to the nature of the stairs, service dogs must remain on the ground floor of the windmill.

Can I buy flour?

Accepted Answer

Not yet - though our volunteers are working hard to complete the final remaining work that is required to produce flour for human consumption. Our open days are still a fantastic experience for everyone to appreciate the restored windmill site and machinery.
