Event description

Description

As a valued supporter of UpRising and our activity in Manchester, I have the pleasure of inviting you to attend our 10-year celebration evening that includes the graduation of the young people from our 2017/2018 Environmental Leadership Programme.

We would like to thank Tim Desmond, CEO of the National Football Museum for supporting our event, and the National Lottery for the ongoing support.

UpRising was launched in Manchester in 2012 and has been a huge success, engaging over 500 young people in our inspiring Programmes. Recently we were nominated for the Spirit of Manchester and Northwest Charity Awards, demonstrating the incredible impact of our work.

In Manchester, we are supported by a wide range of global, national and local organisations, who deliver sessions on our Programmes, host visits or mentor our young participants. These include:

Corporate: PwC - Brother UK - Bruntwood - Siemens - Arup - RBS - Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce

Cultural: The Pankhurst Centre - Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art - HOME

Third: Big Life Group - The Co-operative Group - Friends of the Earth - National Trust - Manchester Climate Change Agency

Media: BBC North West at Media City UK - Guardian - Big Issue North

Education: Manchester Metropolitan University - The University of Manchester - University of Salford - University of Bolton - The Manchester College - The Skills Company

Government: Manchester City Council - Trafford Council

2018 marks the tenth anniversary of UpRising’s very first programmes in East London. We are now operating leadership and employability programmes in several cities across the UK, with hundreds of young people benefiting from our programmes each year.

We are tremendously proud of everything that UpRising has achieved so far, and of the talent and drive of young people on our programmes, who go on to become leaders in fields such as law, business and social enterprise, politics and the media. We are pleased to say that some of our Alumni have made great progress such as Ali Raza Ilyas who has pursued his interest in politics and was successfully elected as a local councillor, Tudor Barker who has pursued his interest in the environment by joining the Greater Manchester Climate Agency Youth Board and Ravelle Thomas who pursued her interest in media to become a Programme Coordinator for the BBC.

We couldn't have made any of this happen without support from individuals, funders and employers who believed in UpRising's approach and helped us by volunteering their time, venues to run sessions and, of course, funding.

Alongside celebrating the success of UpRisers on the Manchester Environmental Leadership Programme, the Graduation event is a chance to say thank you for your support, to share highlights from the past decade, and look ahead to the future of UpRising.

We are delighted to welcome, Rushanara Ali MP who will be giving a keynote address and Cllr Luthfur Rahman, Executive Lead for Culture at Manchester City Council will be introducing some of our fantastic UpRisers from this year’s programme.

We will be serving welcoming drinks and canapés.
