Description

DESCRIPTION

'Attracting and Retaining Talent' is a consultation event bringing together some of Manchester's most successful businesses to consult with the young leaders of tomorrow, to explore the issues around recruiting and retaining a diverse young workforce.

The consultation forms part of UpRising's Fastlaners programme, an employability and personal development opportunity funded by the prestigious Queen's Young Leaders. Fastlaners targets unemployed or underemployed graduates, offering two weeks of workshops, networking and skills development, followed by up to six months of support and mentoring.

'Attracting and Retaining Talent' is the culmination of the first year of Fastlaners, providing a platform for organisations to share their strategic objectives and challenges around recruitment and diversity. We will then be led by participants, drawing on their learning and experience of the workplace via a workshop-style consultation.

Following recommendations from our young leaders, organisations are invited to make pledges around their approach to recruitment and diversity - these could be light touch pledges, such as work experience placements or utilising social media to promote opportunities, or longer term commitments to reduce barriers for diverse young people to access opportunities.

These pledges and the findings from nine consultations across the UK between 2017 and 2019 will be combined into a national report in partnership with Queen’s Young Leaders. This report will propose recommendations for organisations across the UK to address the challenges of recruiting and retaining a diverse, millennial workforce.

The panel will include: Karen Mclaughlin, Global Opertaions Director at DXC Technology and David Shindler, Career & Performance Coach and non-executive Director of Youth Employment UK. Plus further panelists to be announced soon.

The event is hosted by Bruntwood, a family-owned and run commercial property company with over 140 buildings throughout Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Liverpool, Birmingham and Leeds.
