Everyone wants to climb strongly and descend faster or more confidently, but improving your technique and ultimately your performance doesn't happen overnight. It takes time, practice and most importantly an understanding of what you're trying to acheive!
Improving your ascending and descending technique over hilly terrain will not only make you faster on race day and aid recovery, but will also reduce energy expenditure over longer distances, giving you greater endurance. This collaborative online workshop, with expert input from inov-8 and Physio Effect, covers the scientific theory behind:
- TECHNIQUE - Take a scientific approach to pacing, understand your running form and explore techniques for up and downhill running on different gradients and varied terrain
- POLES - Discover strategy and technique for running with poles
- INJURY PREVENTION - Targeted strength and conditioning drills from Physio Effect to help prevent injury and prepare the body for efficient and confident descending (take the session away with you and try this at home!) Mariam Kilpatrick is a trail runner and Chartered Physiotherapist at Physio Effect, Glasgow who works with rehabilitating injured runners.
- FOOTWEAR - discuss the interplay of grip and cushioning, and find the right shoe for the job...
The session will be hosted by Dr Keri Wallace, Girls on Hills' Co-Founder and trail running guide, who has a PhD in proprioception and neuromuscular activity in targeted movements from Cambridge University.
