Upside Down: The Gospel on the Streets of El Barrio (Event 1)
Mon 10 April 2017, 09:30 – 12:00 EDT
Join us for a three-day conference in East Harlem, New York entitled "Upside Down: The Gospel on the Streets of El Barrio." The first day of the conference will begin on Monday, April 10th from 9:30 AM to Noon. Our presenter will be Michael Nicolás Okińczyc who will give a talk on Oscar Romero entitled "Upending the Tables." Michael is the Executive Director of Gamaliel of Western New York (Niagara Organizing Alliance for Hope & VOICE-Buffalo).
We remember Oscar Romero, the former Archbishop of San Salvador. A marksman’s bullet killed him in the middle of mass on March 24, 1980. His life testified to a world turned upside down where the poorest have dignity and are to be loved as we would love our own. “If we look at poverty from the outside, as if we’re looking at a fire, that’s not to opt for the poor, no matter how concerned we may be. We should get inside as if our own mother and sister were burning. Indeed it’s Christ who is there, hungry and suffering.”
All tickets are free. If you have questions or need more information, please contact us at email@example.com
PLEASE NOTE: This is a waitlisted ticket only and you must present your ticket at the door before the event begins. Your ticket is only valid for this Monday morning event.
