About this event
What are the challenges and opportunities facing urban communities trying to take ownership of their pub?
This report draws on interviews and workshops with community pub groups, as well as data analysis undertaken by the Plunkett Foundation. It sets out what needs to change so that more urban communities can set up their own community pub, and create a community hub that offers local people a space to come together, and enrich their lives through social and employment opportunities.
At this launch event, Georgina Edwards (Policy and Research Manager, Plunkett Foundation) will share the research findings and recommendations relating to changes in policy, legislation, funding and the community ownership model. Responding to the report findings will be Nick Plumb from Power to Change, and Claire Spencer from the West Midlands Combined Authority. These responses will be followed by a discussion, where we welcome input from participants about:
- how urban community pubs can be better supported to regenerate towns and high streets, create pride in place and contribute to Levelling Up across the country;
- opportunities for cross-sector collaboration on future support measures for community pubs;
- how the research's policy and support recommendations can be implemented going forward.
The report will be published on the day of the launch on Plunkett Foundation's website: https://plunkett.co.uk/reports/
