Urban Recovery Plans in a Changing World

As cities navigate their way out of the pandemic, policymakers are looking internationally for novel policy approaches and new ways of working. This roundtable brings together city leaders to share their strategies and tactics for a successful recovery.

The event will be a chance to listen and learn from urban politicians and officials from London and across the world. They will reveal their insights for building back sustainably, and for creating places that are more equal, fair, safe, green, and prosperous.

Questions the event will consider include:

· How is the recovery encouraging opportunities for innovation, including partnership working?

· Which approaches are being deployed to ensure the benefits are shared as equitably as possible?

· What mechanisms can be used to ensure recovery plans are effectively implemented and responsive to local need?

Speakers will include Debbie Weekes-Bernard, London’s Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice, Nasima Razmyar, Helsinki's Deputy Mayor for Education, Demetrio Scopelliti, Milan's Director of Urban Planning and Public Space Design, Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, Boston's Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space, Professor Ben Rogers, Bloomberg Government Policy Innovation at LSE Cities and Professor of Practice at the University of London, Jacob Frey, the Mayor of Minneapolis, Marie-Christine Therrien, Direc­tor of Cité-ID Liv­ingLab Urban Resilience Gov­er­nance in Montréal, and Kim Wright, Lewisham Council's Chief Executive. This event is jointly hosted by the London Research and Policy Partnership (LRaPP), the Greater London Authority (GLA), and IPPO Cities – part of the International Public Policy Observatory, and will be chaired by Professor Sir Geoff Mulgan, IPPO's Co-Investigator.
