1st September - Sketching the details with fine markers and pens, with guest architect David Blaikie.

We will start the session by looking at one of David's designs and discussing contrasting contemporary design with traditional buildings, as well as contemporary detailing, structural expressionism and contextualism.

You will need to have the following items at hand: Pens and or fine markers and a sketchbook or some A4 printer paper.

Join Edinburgh artist and art teacher Cassandra Harrison and location artist Mark Kirkham, also known as Edinburgh Sketcher in the Scottish capital for this relaxed workshop looking at various ways to capture the world around you, and we will have some very special guests dropping in from time to time to share their thoughts too.

Over fortnightly 75 minute Zoom sessions we will bring you an insight into our own practices, how we create our art with a glimpse at the tips and techniques which we do daily, often without thinking. By sharing how we work we will hopefully inspire you to have a go and to try something new.

As well as sharing our process we will also look at other artists' work and the different mediums and techniques they use. We will then have a go with you, learning together as we go.

I am often encouraging people to practice as much as possible and also to try many styles and techniques. By joining us every fortnight we will help you achieve this, and at the same time we hope to create a group who enjoy spending an hour drawing together, regardless of where in the world they are.

A bit about Mark:

Always a doodler it wasn’t until 2010 when I started uploading my scribbles to show to the world. Living in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, surrounded by stunning architecture and beautiful landscapes I was spoilt for choice when it came to subjects to draw. I now offer commissions, prints, various merchandise, sketching workshops and sketching tours within the city, as well as live sketching from events such as festivals and weddings.

A bit about Cassandra:

For years I have been interested in capturing the world around me through drawing. I take my notebooks and paint box with me on holidays, around town, even to the nearby park in hopes of capturing the look and feel of a place. My urban sketches seem more real than photos to me as they are more than just a snapshot of a moment. I have been teaching art for years and look forward to working with Mark to deliver this fun session.
