Event description
An introduction to enjoying the pastime and art of Urban Sketching. A fun day for those new (and almost new ) to sketching and drawing.

About this Event

Urban Sketching is not competitive, not comparative, and not judged. The day's course will help you build up the confidence, awareness and understanding needed to take part in a fun and group based artistic activity. Tuition will cover basic drawing and sketching skills, the choice of materials and techniques, and subjects such as the use of watercolour, shadows and perspective will be covered in a general but non-technical way.

In short the day's workshop will open the door to an enjoyable and absorbing art-based pastime.

The following bullet-points could serve to sum up why we choose to take part in "Urban Sketching"

1: Drawing is on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.

2: Drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live, and the places where we have travelled.

3:Drawings are a record of time and place.

4: We are as truthful as our skill allows to the scenes we observe.

5: We use any kind of media and cherish individual styles.

6: We support each other, sketching together.

7:We happily share our drawings and experiences.

8: We show the world how we see it.

9:We encourage each other with kind, positive and enthusiastic words.

10: We enjoy a community activity with like-minded folk.

Please note that this is one of two Urban Sketching workshops planned for Autumn 2019, both will have virtually the same content

Your tutor for the day is Graham Thew. B.Arch. B.A.

Graham qualified as an Architect, and ran a successful practice in Liverpool from 1981 until 2006 when he forsook the world of Architecture to return to University to undertake a Fine Art Degree as a mature student. He has taught and demonstarted art locally and also on cruise ships. He was short-listed as "Artist of the Year" by a national magazine in 2015 and recently featured in "Cheshire Life" and appeared as a winning contestant on the B.B.C. series "Home is Where the Art is"

Graham founded the "Wirral Urban Sketchers"Group in 2016 which now numbers many active and enthusiastic members and meets on the last Sunday of each month in addition to occasional event weekends.
