Description

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an infamous annual arts festival, and a important date for comedians across the UK. Comedians travel there every year to showcase their talent, in the hope of breaking through and gaining industry recognition. With preview season starting soon, Urmston Comedy Club have bagged some of the best shows set to attract thousands of Fringe festival goers this year.

Throughout March to July, Urmston Comedy Club are hosting several preview nights, at The Roebuck Pub in Urmston. Each preview night will include two full Edinburgh Fringe Festival shows, for only £10 a ticket.

Thursday 23rd May features Alun Cochrane and Tom Taylor.

Award-winning stand up comedian Alun Cochrane has appeared on numerous TV shows including Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Russell Howard’s Good News, Mock The Week, Dave’s One Night Stand, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. He was featured as series regular ‘Sam’ in the Sky Living sitcom Trying Again, alongside Chris Addison and has appeared in Coronation Street, Boomers and Russell Howard’s Christmas film A Gert Lush Christmas.

Alun is the co-host of The Frank Skinner Show on Absolute, for which he received a 2012 Arqiva Award nomination for Best Newcomer. The show also won a Sony Award in 2011 for Best Entertainment Programme and was nominated again in 2012. He regularly features on BBC Radio 4’s The Comedy Club. Other radio credits include The Now Show,Just A Minute, Dilemma, Loose Ends, Lee Mack And Friends and Listomania. Alun wrote and starred in the Radio 4 series Alun Cochrane’s Fun House, offering listeners a room-by-room stand up tour of his home.

Alun is a master at observational comedy, an expert in storytelling and uniquely able to to gather material from anywhere he wanders in mind or body.

Tom Taylor is the Indie Feel-Good Hit of the Summer (Work In Progress).

A favourite of live bookers across the UK, Tom has also supported Simon Munnery, John Kearns and Abandoman on tour and performed on Radio 2 and Radio 4 as part of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award.

In 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the following year he was a finalist in the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and in 2015 he took home the award for Comedian of the Year at the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe. Most recently he picked up the Audience Favourite Award at the Musical Comedy Awards 2017 and reached the final of English Comedian of the Year 2018.

In addition to his stand-up talents, Tom is an accomplished actor and writer having penned and performed two one-man murder mysteries, A Charlie Montague Mystery: The Game’s a Foot, Try the Fish and The Man with the Twisted Hip. Following two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Tom embarked on a national tour of both shows in autumn 2017.
