About this Event

Our monthly comedy night in Urmston is back!

Featuring some of the best in the business. Plus the wonderful team at the Roebuck have put together a delicious set menu option. Featuring some amazing food to add to your night of comedy. You can get either a two course or a three course meal from the set menu at the bottom of the page.*

Tony Burgess.

You may recognise Tony from his role in the cult BBC3 comedy Ideal where he played DJ Troy, Moz’s crazy, vinyl obsessed brother; you may have seen his self penned BBC1 sitcom The Visit, or maybe you’ve caught him doing stand up where he’s played most established venues throughout the country.

Tony was the winner of the prestigious City Life Comedian of the Year, came runner up in So You Think You’re Funny and was nominated for best stand up and writer at the North West comedy awards. He was also a founder member of the topical MEN at work team at the Comedy Store in Manchester, regular compere of the long established Frog and Bucket Comedy club and has supported household names like Johnny Vegas on National Theatre tours.

He wrote on the first two series of cult BBC 3 sitcom Ideal, co-wrote a Sony Award winning Radio 4 comedy, The Nightclass, with Johnny Vegas “first rate acting….great characterisation and clever writing….”, and penned his own seven part BBC sitcom The Visit, which played to much acclaim on both BBC3 and BBC1.

Tony has also written for many big name comedians including Steve Coogan (Paul and Pauline Calf’s Cheese and Ham Sandwich), Johnny Vegas (the Sony award winning radio comedy Nightclass and Who’s Ready For Ice Cream) Lily Savage and John Bishop (John Bishop’s Britain). Tony even managed to get a writing credit on Wallace and Gromit’s The Curse of the Were Rabbit, so his kids now believe that he’s got a proper job.

Mike Newall.

Forget Russell Brand, Mancunian Mike Newall is regarded by many as having the best hair in the UK comedy scene with a throwback to Oasis in 1990 he’s one for the ladies and the gents too. As a result many are now calling him ‘The Real Magic Mike’. Fortunately he’s also one of the country’s most consistently reliable comedy storytellers and proud possessor of a breezy, casual style that’s the envy of many of his contemporaries. Frankly we’ve never seen a comedian so laid back and yet packing so much comedic power. Swiss clock timing and that certain knack for a sharp turn of phrase means he is living proof that you can’t learn to be funny, it’s a gift and he has it by the bucket load. Manchester has had more than its fair share of comedy heritage over the years, he is without doubt the latest smooth talking, globetrotting Manc export and could even go on to become the greatest. Mike has that rare knack of being like the boy the next door but with huge star quality. He’s like your best, most humorous friend – only funnier!

Big Lou.

Lewis ‘Big Lou’ Jones has become a favourite on both the comedy circuit and after dinner circuit since he burst on to the scene back in 2010. The Manchester born comic announced himself on to the comedy scene by winning the Lass O’gowrie New Comedian Of The Year competition. Big Lou can also be seen closing for the likes of The Comedy Station, Rolf Comedy Club, Ha Ha Comedy Club (Bryan Malcolm), Gags On The Green, Hot Water Comedy Club and of course Urmston Comedy Club!

Big Lou has also been a regular voice on the radio, starting back in 2011 with his cult show The Keenan & L Show on Wythenshawe FM which ran until 2012. Lewis was also the voice of another show on Wythenshawe FM called Big Lou’s Theme Time Radio which also ran from 2011- 2012. Lewis has also been a regular voice on FAB Radio, Revolution FM, BBC Radio Manchester & BBC Radio Lancashire.

Josh Jones.

Born and bred in Manchester, Josh Jones is fast becoming one of the best young acts on the circuit. In just three short years Josh has gone from an open spot to a regular at some of the biggest comedy clubs in the country, including the prestigious Glee Club.

2019 has seen Josh nominated for the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, and he continues to wow audiences up and down the country. Josh was also named as one of Chortle’s Ones to Watch in 2019, and will be appearing as part of the Pleasance Reserve at the Edinburgh Fringe.
