About this Event

Our monthly comedy night in Urmston is back!

Featuring some of the best in the business. Plus the wonderful team at the Roebuck have put together a delicious set menu option. Featuring some amazing food to add to your night of comedy. You can get either a two course or a three course meal from the set menu at the bottom of the page.*

Allyson June Smith.

After her initial forays into standup garnered her some success, Allyson hit the comedy club circuit, which in turn propelled her to headlining gigs at festivals. She shone in multiple high-profile slots at the Winnipeg, Halifax and Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival. And that was just the start. In the years that followed she received multiple nominations for Best Female Stand-up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, taped her own Comedy Now special and did stints on MuchMusic’s Video on Trial and CBC’s The Debaters.

Now settled in the city of Manchester, UK, it’s time for Europe to reap the rewards of Allyson June Smith’s ever-inventive comedic ascent.

A self-confessed “over-sharer”, any Allyson June Smith show inevitably serves up a potent observational cocktail of wit, bite and shame. Which means you’ll typically find her after the show, with a line of eager fans queued up to talk with her, to confess to her or to share some comically grisly detail from their own lives. Courageously self-deprecating, Allyson’s comedic gift is making every room, whatever the size, feel like an intimate group therapy session. That intimacy, that uncommon bond between audience and performer is at the heart of Allyson’s magic as a comedian. Like the most relatable actresses working today or your very best friend, she finds a way to connect with everyone in a room, be they from southeast Asia, the U.K. or North America.

“Simply one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever worked with,” praised Jason Manford, following a string of support dates.

Other A-listers Allyson has been called to share the stage with include Katherine Ryan, Stewart Francis, John Bishop, Stephen Merchant, and Samantha Bee (The Daily Show).

This Canadian comic might have disappointed her parents when she turned her back on teaching to become a stand-up comic – but sorry Dad, it was the comedy world’s turn to gain.

Simon Donald.

Simon Donald, Internationally renowned lavatory humourist and co-founder of Viz Comic, made history alongside his brother and a school friend by turning their playground antics into the notorious sales phenomenon of the late 20th century. Their magazine and its remarkable story is celebrated in Donald’s highly rated autobiography, HIM OFF THE VIZ.

He has worked in stand-up, both as himself and as a character comedian since 2005, writing and performing ten one man shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. He appears as a compere, both at comedy clubs and events, lectures on the history of Viz Comic to arts and business courses and hosts cartoon workshops for younger students.

Simon has had a long career as a media pundit, beginning on Carlton TV’s debate programs in the early 1990s and progressing to the BBC’s I Love the 1970s, followed by numerous talking head shows including Channel 4’s 100 Greatest and Channel 5’s Top Tens.

Also a trained actor, Simon began as a teenager in the 1970s, appearing in a number of groundbreaking plays at Newcastle’s Young People’s Theatre, including Romeo and Juliet and Alan Plater’s Close the Coalhouse Door. He also performed at the city’s Gulbenkian Studio. He recently starred as Cousin Ronnie and the YouTube sitcom I’ve Got a Job for You Gav.

Steve Harris.

Steve first leapt on stage back in August 1998 and within 3 months had won himself the coveted North-West comedian of the year award after just 5 gigs.

A finalist of the BBC new comedy awards and Channel 4's “So you think you're funny” in the same year, Steve went on to headline all of the top comedy clubs in the UK including venues as far flung as Hong Kong and Australia.

With his ever-expanding reputation the demand for Steve has come from all different types of media outlets including Radio and Television. With support slots with the likes of Johnny Vegas, Peter Kay and Lee Evans, Steve comes highly recommended from the heavy weights of comedy themselves.

Currently just off his recently successful “Hit the North” tour Steve has leapt back onto the comedy circuit with gusto. See him now before he gets too big. Steve's comedic ability comes from his flexibility and warm nature.

Whether he's dealing with hecklers or his mum has found out where he's playing there's always a level of warmth in his attack even if it is pre-emptive.

Whatever age or walk of life you're from Steve has something for you, guaranteed to have you breathless with laughter, a master of the obvious and a Ninja of the not so obvious, you'll be hit so hard by a punch line you won't know where it's come from.

His most obvious asset is his ability to get any audience on his side, a well-crafted act and a will and confidence to survive outside of it, is what sets Steve aside from many of his peers.

Alex Boardman.

“Alex was one of a small band of writers who worked on the second series of John Bishop’s Britain on BBC 1 and he made a significant contribution to it being the highest rated stand up show of 2011 bringing in six million viewers a week. He can turn material around quickly and has the great skill of enhancing existing ideas to make a show better rather than just wishing to force his own material which makes him a great collaborator” John Bishop

“Alex started stand up the year before me at the same dodgy backrooms and pubs in Manchester. He has gone on to be one of the most assured confident stand ups on the circuit and regularly plays all the top comedy clubs here and abroad. I employed him as a writer when I was on 8 Out of 10 cats, he is quality.” Jason Manford

“A great comic and a skilled writer” Sarah Millican

Alex Boardman is now one of the most sought after acts in the country due to his ability to interact with any audience and to seemingly conjure something out of nothing. His free flowing style and natural charm breeze through in performances. His unique brand of “Flattery and abuse” is done with a lack of malice and a big sense of fun.

Before you ask, he is no relation to Stan Boardman.
