This course is for anyone who has previously passed a stage combat fight test.
The quarterstaff is an old weapon dating back to early medieval period. It was the weapon of the people, the commoners’ weapon and it was cheap, easily accessible and absolutely deadly in the right hands!
Come and learn the skills and discipline required to fight with this historic weapon on stage and screen. Improve and increase your level of skills and knowledge in the art of stage fighting. Work towards the Certificate of Proficiency from the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat. Regular attendance is essential.
This course is about developing your skills and learning the techniques and methods involved when fighting with the quarterstaff.
It will further your knowledge and experience in the art of fighting on stage. A constant emphasis will be placed on how to work in the safest and most controlled manner and there will be the opportunity to take the BASSC Fight Performance Test on the final day.
This is a practical course where teaching is done by instructor demonstration followed by students working in pairs. Students will be expected to engage in Q&A sessions with the tutor as part of the group learning process. A certain amount of physical and mental stamina is required.
You will need to wear comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing and training shoes with a good grip. You may also wish to bring a notebook and something to write with.
