About this event

Join us with Kimberly Campanello and Daisy Hildyard, in conversation with Barry Pierce, to discuss Use The Words You Have - a heady, poetic, erotic and intelligent literary romance, rich in Breton cuisine and culture, French poetry and Italian-American rituals from an utterly original new voice in literary fiction - and Emergency - a reimagining of the pastoral novel for the age of climate crisis, in which Hildyard's sensual, vividly depicted rural world is evoked through a woman's lockdown memories as the harmony of nature is slowly eroded by pollution and corporate negligence.Kimberly Campanello’s publications includeMOTHERBABYHOME (zimZalla, 2019), sorry that you were not moved (Fallow Media, 2022) and (S)worn State(s) (The Salvage Press, 2024). Her writing has appeared in Granta, The White Review, The London Magazine, Tolka, The Pig’s Back, Poetry Ireland Review, Poetry Review and Somesuch Stories. She is Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds. Her latest poetry collection An Interesting Detail is published by Bloomsbury Poetry. Use the Words You Have is her first novel.Daisy Hildyard’s first novel, Hunters in the Snow, received the Somerset Maugham Award and a ‘5 under 35’ honorarium at the USA National Book Awards. Her essay The Second Body, a brilliantly lucid account of the dissolving boundaries between all life on earth, was published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in 2017. Her novel Emergency won the RSL Encore Award in 2023.Barry Pierce is a books and culture writer based in London. He has been a book critic for the Irish Times, Sunday Times and the Big Issue and his cultural criticism has appeared in Dazed, i-D, British GQ and HERO Magazine.
