Event description
Using agri-food liquid streams for algal cultivation

About this event

AD plant managers/owners, potato processing industries, and other stakeholders working on the agri-food industry producing nutrient-rich liquid streams are being invited to join the ALG-AD and Nutri2Cycle projects at a workshop, which will be held in May at its pilot facility in Oostkamp, Belgium.

The event, planned for Thursday 19th May, offers delegates the opportunity to find out more about the work being done on the project and to contribute to its further development and long-term implementation. The workshop will also offer the opportunity to see first-hand the algal cultivation facility at Oostkamp, from the pre-treatment to the cultivation and harvesting steps. This facility was built by the ALG-AD project and uses liquid digestate as a nutrient source for growing protein-rich microalgae.

“ALG-AD offers an exciting potential for AD plants and the agri-food sector, creating new business opportunities and developing a circular economy,” said Dr Marcella Fernandes de Souza from Ghent University.

The event is free and will be held at Innolab, Marechalstraat 70, 8020 Oostkamp, Belgium.

This workshop is a part of the Flemish Algal Month Event (FAME), which also counts with two other events on May 4th and 12th dealing, respectively, with microalgae in the food industry (organized by ILVO) and developing the microalgae sector for the circular economy (organized by Radius @Thomas More).
