CAD in Design Technology CPD

January 25, 2018 at 4:00PM

Bitterne Manor Primary School

Design Technology - using CAD (Computer Aided Design) as an integral part of the DT design process.

SESSION OVERVIEW

National Curriculum for Design Technology: Pupils should be taught to generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches, cross-sectional and exploded diagrams, prototypes, pattern pieces and computer-aided design.

During this CPD twilight session at Bitterne Manor Primary School, we will explore the importance and benefits of CAD, how it fits into your DT curriculum, opportunities to expand the use of CAD in DT and foundation topics and a practical hands on session using ‘Sketchup’ (free for schools) to design, create, modify and test 3D models. This will include creating basic 3D models, annotating, scale models with measurements, creating 2D images of these models as multi-viewpoint plans, cross sectional diagrams and rendering.

Laptops with Sketchup will be provided, please provide details of your topic/ DT themes in advance so that I can demonstrate some examples (i.e. Greek architecture, lunar buggies, WWII bomb shelters, sandwich packaging etc).

This CPD will run at the introductory rate of £40 per delegate. Please also note that we also provide whole school INSET, staff meeting or twilight sessions at very reasonable rates.

"Excellent delivery with practical and appropriate ideas to take straight back into the classroom."
"The training session was extremely fun to participate in, it allowed us to actually get engaged in our own learning and gave us a really good idea on how to start teaching pupils."
"...prior to arrival the session seemed daunting due to the 'technical' nature of the subject, but the trainer made the subject accessible and easy to understand."

All materials and resources used on this course will be made available to all delegates after the course.
