Are you:

  • Dealing with difficult people?
  • Working to understand your own or others' aspirations?
  • Trying to figure out what makes someone tick?
  • Coping with a stressful lifestyle?
  • Trying to make a difficult decision?
  • Dealing with strong emotions in yourself or others?

Most of us have challenges to face in our everyday lives and at work. Many challenges can be overcome, or significantly reduced by using just a few simple 'clean' questions? And that these can be the same questions, regardless of the nature of the problem?

‘Clean Language’ started as a one-to-one therapeutic process for helping individuals to resolve trauma and move forward in their lives. It was developed by clinical psychologist, David Grove. The ‘clean’ of Clean Language relates to his desire not to ‘contaminate’ his client’s language but let it evolve naturally as he played a client’s words back to them and asked them very open, neutral questions. David’s results in this field were astounding and as well as helping many people to resolve traumatic memories, he also trained thousands of people worldwide in this highly respectful and powerful methodology.

Sadly, David passed away 10 years ago, but his legacy lives on, and clean questions are now used the world over for a multitude of diverse activities, from helping children to read and write to culture change projects in large organisations. Lawyers, managers, coaches of all kinds, teachers, leaders, health workers, group facilitators, activists, journalists, careers advisors, parents, mentors, mediators, salespeople, researchers and customer service reps have all found ways to use or adapt these neutral questions to achieve a multitude of different kinds of outcomes from reducing bias in academic research to creating healthy collaborative environments.

During this session, Marian Way will run interactive activities around the theme of ‘overcoming challenges’. She’ll give a brief outline of Clean Language and how it works and will identify some key clean questions you can use immediately. You will have the opportunity to use these questions to learn more about a challenge of your own and what needs to happen to resolve it. There will also be a question-and-answer session.

OUR SPEAKER

Marion Way from Clean Learning

Marian is the author of Clean Approaches for Coaches: How to Create the Conditions for Change using Clean Language and Symbolic Modelling and co-author, with James Lawley, of Insights in Space: How to use Clean Space to solve problems, generate ideas and spark creativity.

Marian started her working life as a maths teacher and later, became a leading innovator within the Weight Watchers organisation, including developing the “points” strategy that went on to be used worldwide. When she came across NLP and then Clean Language, Marian transitioned to a third career as a clean coach and trainer. She is a highly-skilled and well-respected trainer, delivering training in many different clean approaches across the world and online. Marian also uses and trains Systemic Modelling, a method devised by her business partner, Caitlin Walker, for using clean with groups to resolve difficulties, encourage collaboration and enable more people to be at their best more of the time.
