Event description
Experiences of using co & mutual regulation as a whole school approach to improving wellbeing & reducing the incidences of problem behaviour

About this event

Anna Richardson discusses experiences of using co & mutual regulation as a whole school approach to improving well-being & reducing the incidences of problem behaviours.

Anna shares the whole school development project that focused on improving the well-being of children and young people with severe learning difficulties, PMLD and ASD through the use of co- and mutual regulation strategies, particularly with the aim of reducing behaviours that challenge and increasing participation in learning. Anna will share how the approach, now primarily at universal and targeted level, was developed, focusing on increasing well-being through the use of highly individualised mutual and co-regulation strategies. Data pre and post intervention will be used to demonstrate the child’s increase in overall well-being, reduction in behaviours that challenge and an increase in participation in all aspects of learning. She will discuss the outcomes and benefits perceived by staff, children and their parents as well as the barriers and ongoing challenges they face as they link this approach to curriculum delivery and outreach services. Case studies and videos will be used to support learning.
