During this session with colleagues from Ministry of Justice (MoJ) you'll enjoy a demonstration showing how to consolidate all your project artifacts in one place by leveraging recent GitHub and open-source tools:

  • GitHub Actions for automating software workflows GitHub Projects for work management
  • GitHub Discussions for documenting discovery work and communicating with users
  • A /docs folder for documenting user guidance and technical concepts in Markdown
  • Mermaid for creating simple diagrams using Markdown-like syntax Excalidraw for creating editable diagrams and whiteboard sketches, which can be saved as code in a /docs/images folder
  • Marp for creating slide decks in Markdown, which can be saved as code in a /docs/slides folder

The membership of the Government Analysis Function is a wide and diverse community of people, it includes:

  • operational researchers

  • statisticians and data scientists
  • analysts within the Government Digital and Data profession
  • anyone else working in analysis in government

The Government Analysis Function fits into the Civil Service’s functional model. Each analytical profession provides guidance on the expectations of a person in order to be recognised as a member of that profession.

The function brings together all members of the analytical professions as well as anyone or any team that produces analysis, evidence and research to support decision making in government.

The function does not remove the professional identities of each individual profession. It brings them together to be greater than the sum of its parts and to make efficiencies.
