Using Immersive Projection to Explain Complex Business Ideas

By MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub

Overview

See how immersive projection can help you explain complex products, services or processes more clearly and memorably.

Immersive Intentions: Make What You Do Easier to Understand

Some businesses do excellent work, but find it hard to show it.

You might rely on processes, environments, experiences or systems that don’t translate well into slides, websites or brochures. You might spend too long explaining what you do, how it works, or why it matters.

Immersive Intentions is a small-group, hands-on session for Greater Manchester businesses to explore whether immersive projection and spatial experiences could help communicate your work more clearly.

The session is led by immersive creators Leo Mercer, known for projection mapping and large-scale immersive installations, and Sam Gee, a videographer and animator working across visual storytelling and digital environments. Together, they will share project examples and approaches drawn from their live commissions and public-facing immersive work.

Through live examples and guided discussion with practicing immersive artists, you’ll see how projection, light, sound and spatial storytelling are being used in real settings from public engagement and exhibitions to brand spaces and complex process walkthroughs.

You’ll bring a communication challenge from your organisation, explore possible immersive approaches, and where there’s a strong fit, your brief may be developed into a rapid demonstration concept.

Who it’s for

This opportunity is for Greater Manchester businesses and organisations that:

  • Struggle to explain what you do, how you work, or why it matters
  • Want stronger engagement (customers, communities, staff, stakeholders, future employees)
  • Have a story, process, product or place that’s hard to show on a screen
  • Are curious about projection or immersive installations but don’t know where to start

No prior experience with creative technology is needed.

What we’ll explore

You’ll see how immersive installations can support your business with things like:

  • Brand activations and product launches
  • Visitor experiences (venues, spaces, public engagement)
  • Trade shows / expos and stand experiences
  • Recruitment & employer branding
  • Internal comms and staff engagement
  • Community/stakeholder storytelling
  • Explaining complex processes in a clear, physical way

What happens in the session

During the intervention, you will:

  • Bring a business challenge (e.g. “We struggle to explain X / get people to care about Y”).
  • Experience a curated set of examples across different settings and sectors.
  • Map what could work for your organisation (with guided prompts and discussion).
  • Identify what’s realistic now vs later.
  • If selected for the next step: your brief can be taken to a team of artists to create a rapid demo concept.

What you’ll leave with

By the end, you’ll have:

  • A clearer sense of what projection / spatial storytelling can do for your organisation
  • Practical ideas you can take forward internally or with partners.
  • A sharper brief, if you decide to commission or explore further.
  • No obligation to spend money afterwards

This is a low-risk, high-insight opportunity funded by MediaCity Immersive Technologies Innovation Hub.
