Using LinkedIn for your Career Journey

LinkedIn is a great platform for your career development where you can interact, connect and network with recruiters, employers and employees. Here you can expand on your traditional CV and gain credibility with the social proof of your experience, expertise, leadership and talents.

Demonstrate your skills and knowledge and showcase your talents through your posts, illustrating your online CV with visual past and current lived experiences. Participate in discussion online and prove your knowledge and expertise in your field.

LinkedIn is the business platform where you are actively encouraged to approach potential employees and recruiters and communicate directly with them. Researching a prospective employer could never be easier - check out their company page and also investigate the people in the business - who are they, what are their roles and what's the company culture like? Do you see a future with them? Are they aligning with your own ethics, beliefs and purpose?

With a well-built masthead and profile, recruiters and employers can find you on the platform via a skills identification search. This way they can communicate with you about possible roles with them that are a good match with your profile, skills set, qualifications and previous experience.

In the appointment the careers adviser will help you to:

• explore different careers and options
• review your strengths, skills and develop your career goals
• plan your next steps
• make the best use of high-quality, career-related tools
• understand the local job market
• access learning, training, apprenticeship and employment opportunities, including making applications
• develop your CV, interview skills and job searching techniques
• implement your plan of action.

What else do I need to know?

There may be other participants in the session, so you must take care not to reveal any of your personal data at any time. Our recommendation is that you do not supply, verbally or on screen, your full name, email address, telephone number or any other information which could identify you to other participants on the call. You must not share such data, to safeguard your interests and so that you do not make yourself vulnerable to any malicious activity. Some presentations may be recorded for training purposes.
