Using Music as an Interweave in EMDR

Using Music as an Interweave in EMDR

By EMDR Yorkshire Region

Overview

Join Cassandra Manning for a workshop on a new model that integrates received (pre-recorded) music into all phases of EMDR.

Welcome to our next Yorkshire Region EMDR event for EMDR practitioners who have completed basic training in EMDR.

Join Cassandra Manning in the inspirational surroundings of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for an innovative workshop exploring a pioneering model that integrates received (pre-recorded) music into all phases of the Standard EMDR Protocol.

Music is fast emerging as a powerful agent in the contemporary therapeutic zeitgeist. With current research on integration of music and EMDR taking place in Canada and Israel—and one study already published (EMDR+, Grifani et al., 2023)—this workshop explores how received (pre-recorded) music can act as a co-therapist, enrich the working alliance, and help clients feel safer, more resourced and connected during EMDR.

Rooted in her background as an opera singer, which started in South Yorkshire as a teen, and supported by over a decade of clinical training—including an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy and MSc in Adolescent and Young Adult Psychotherapy—Cassandra developed this new approach, a practice that fuses intuitive, creative process with clinical rigour in EMDR.

In this session, you will:

• Gain neuroscientific insight into how music can support mental health and enhance adaptive information processing in EMDR

• Explore the use of Music as an Interweave in EMDR in Phases 4–6

• Learn how you can integrate music into all eight phases of the Standard EMDR Protocol

• Witness recorded excerpts from live client sessions and interviews
• Engage in experiential learning opportunities
• Receive an introduction to music selection skills—including collaboration, therapist intuition, and consideration of neurodiversity and cultural awareness
• Learn about the risk/challenge interface when using music in EMDR

If you’re a fully trained EMDR therapist curious to learn more about the use of music in EMDR, we look forward to welcoming you at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on 8th November!

This is an in-person full day event on Saturday 08 November 2025 at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which won the Yorkshire Tourist Attraction in 2023 and has sculptures by famous artists, such as Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Damien Hirst, set in a beautiful landscaped garden that was laid out in the 18th Century.
