Denise is an historian, researcher and writer. Her specialist period is Britain c.1815-1939, particularly its social and cultural aspects. Her interest and expertise in using newspapers in historical research grew from using them whilst researching her first two books, Pit Lasses – Women and Girls in Coalmining, and Breach of Promise to Marry.
