What previous experience do I need with Power BI?

This course does not expect you to be an expert, but you have previously used Power BI Desktop to create some basic reports.

Am I expected to know DAX?

Accepted Answer

We expect that you have previously and successfully created some simple DAX expressions involving functions like SUM and CALCULATE.

Will the training be covering how to automate the refresh and distribution of reports?

Accepted Answer

No. The training focusses just on using Power BI Desktop to create your financial data model and report(s).

What should I expect to receive with this training?

Accepted Answer

By attending and engaging with this training, you will gain knowledge of a range of techniques to address issues that are specific to financial reporting. You will also gain an appreciation of what is possible to achieve, and a free Income Statement template with sample data.

What materials will be used for the training?

Accepted Answer

The training will be conducted through a combination of PowerPoint presentation, Demonstration, Questions & Answers and Practical exercises. The exercises will focus on learning particular concepts and techniques. Advanced examples of these same techniques will be provided in a pre-prepared template

What resources to I need for the training?

You will need a desktop or laptop computer with Power BI Desktop and Excel loaded, internet connection, the ability to run Zoom and a microphone/headset.

Will you provide a recording of the training?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After the training, you will receive links to access recordings of the classes.

Do I need accounting knowledge?

Accepted Answer

Yes. To be able to produce financial statements and reports you should have accounting knowledge. You should at the very least understand the relationship between an Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statement.

Question 9

Will we be creating an Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement?

Accepted Answer

We will create an income statement and discuss how you would extend this to a balance sheet and cash flow statement.

Question 10

Will we learn how to present alternative Charts of Accounts?

Accepted Answer

In the interests of time, we will work with one Chart of Accounts, but will discuss how to extend this to cover multiple Charts, or a single chart with different views for different users.
