Event description

Description

Target audience: EYFS and KS1 teacher and TAs

Course leader: Alison Bailey, Pathfinder consultant trainer

While the teaching of reading using whole class texts is becoming more prevalent in KS2, most EYFS and KS1 classes need to use small group guided or individual reading teaching, primarily to support pupils’ growing decoding abilities. This session will look at maximising the use of ‘story times’ – sharing quality books with groups or the whole class at any point in the school day – to develop pupils’ comprehension skills as well as to enhance their enjoyment and engagement with books and reading. Recommended activities are interesting, active, varied, and age-appropriate.

Delegates should bring with them:

  • A couple of books they intend to read to their pupils in the near future
