Using the Arts to increase Mentalization in work with Children and Families
Fri 31 March 2017, 09:30 – 16:30 BST
The one- day introduction training will start with an overview of the research and theory behind mentalization and the growing evidence base for its effective use with different clinical populations. It will provide a rationale for pursuing a mentalizing focus in arts therapies work with children, adolescents and families and highlight the unique role the arts can play in working both implicitly and explicitly to enhance mentalization. Consideration will be given to assessing the developmental needs and mentalizing capacities of children and families. Workshops will focus on supporting participants to cultivate a mentalizing stance in their arts therapies practice and develop key skills in intervening both verbally and non-verbally. A variety of techniques and activities for in session use will be demonstrated and explored.
The day will provide a solid grounding in understanding the links between Arts Therapies and Mentalization Based Treatments in working with children and families.
