Description

What is "FASIL"?

Fasil is a combination of musical compositions in the form of makam such as pesrev, 1. Beste, 2. Beste, agir semai, yuruk semai, and saz semai composed as a combination in a specific makam. These makams have been collected and compiled for hundreds of years during the ottoman empire reign. "by the way, for someone to get a composer title, he or she must compose all of those in the same makam as one piece."

Fasil is commonly seen at the receptions that the ottoman dynasty would host in the palace. Apart from the receptions, fasil is also very common in the harem and schools in the palace which is called the enderun.

Especially after the music halls, commonly known as gazino, opened its doors in istanbul, the music masters of the period re-examined the structure of the fasil in an up to date manner (in the form of songs), and named it "gazino fasli". The fasil that was composed in the palace is known as classical fasil, and the fasil that was produced in gazino's are called modern fasil or gazino fasli amongst artists. We are going to perform a fasil in maqam Ussak in the first set of our concert.

We are going to be performing "Yesilcam" ( The Green Pine) Turkish Cinema's Hit Movie's Soundtracks in the second part of our concert.
