Published by Vagabond Voices, The Convalescent is a witty and painful story about one man’s struggle against alcoholism. Come along to hear Peter discuss his debut novel, ask him questions, and get your copy personally signed!
William Templeton is awoken from his life as an alcoholic by the sobering news that his mother has been murdered. After years of escaping reality through the bottle, William cannot even remember the last time he visited his mother before her death, and he has no sense of having had any meaningful relationship with her. Wishing to reacquaint himself with reality, he quits drinking and embarks upon a long convalescence. This is a story of wasted lives, flawed relationships and the horrors of old age, though through it all, humour and hope rebalance the drudge and misery.
Glasgow-born author Peter Gilmour obtained degrees from both Strathclyde and Stirling University before working as an associated lecturer with the Open University. In 2011 he published a collection of poetry, Taking Account, with HappenStance Press. The Convalescent is his debut novel, and he is currently working on a second.
