Values in the Workplace
What are the Values most needed in Organisations Today? Do we even know what they are?
Research by Gallup says that over two thirds of people are not engaged in the workplace. Since 2000, this survey is an ongoing daily global poll of hundreds of thousands of employees tracking enthusiasm, contentment and commitment in the workplace. It's not just about the work that each individual has to do, or the team of colleagues that they work with, job satisfaction is very much tied up with the culture of the employee’s organisation.
Company culture invariably comes from the top and is reinforced by the leaders and managers. From the individual owner in a small organisation or right down from the board of directors and CEO who become the custodians and champions of a set of values that have continuity through time and guide the organisation forward. Sometimes these values are simply buried in company documentation and employees are not familiar with them and end up making up their own minds about what they see as values in practice. In other organisations the values that drive the company culture are plastered over the walls, highlighted in brochures and maybe even repeated at company meetings.
How familiar are you with the values that form the culture of your workplace? How are they affecting your experience of day-to-day work? And are they values that you can wholeheartedly embrace? Have you paused to ask yourself what's really important to you in your own business or job, then enquired to verify that you are in full alignment with the values operating around you? At this month’s Conscious Cafe in Skipton, we will explore values in the workplace and discuss what creates a successful work culture where people are engaged, happy and thriving. What can be done to feel aligned with the values and what can be done to change a culture from within?
If you are interested in participating in this conversation and benefiting from the generous sharing our community has developed, then do join us for the third Conscious Cafe event of 2018 on Tuesday 20th March at Hetties Cafe at the top on Skipton High Street.
