Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers, presented by the National Gallery on the event of their 200th anniversary, is a major exhibition devoted to the twelve-year period in which the artist lived and worked in Arles and Saint Remy in the South of France. Bringing together acquisitions from all over the world and the National Galleries own collection, the exhibition explores Van Gogh's evolving interest in poetic imagination and love as subject matters for some of his greatest works.
Highlights of the exhibition include, The Bedroom (1888), an intimate perspective of the artists room in the Yellow House, the first time he had a home of his own, Garden of the Asylum, (1889) a view from his window during his periods at the Saint-Paul de Mausole hospital in Saint-Rémy and Sunflowers (1888), one of the beautiful still life paintings most associated with the artist. As he says himself: ‘The sunflower is mine’ !
