We are delighted to be hosting our third annual in-person staff training day at St Paul's Girls' School, Hammersmith. This event is open to pastoral, wellbeing, PSHE and mental health staff.

Each ticket allows one individual access to all the talks, training, group discussions and Q&A, as well as light refreshments and the opportunity for networking with colleagues throughout the afternoon.

All attendees will be able to request a CPD certificate for attendance.

The day's line-up will feature:

Dr Natalie Edelman will present an interactive session where you will learn how the concepts of resilience and trauma are inter-twined, what it means to take a trauma and resilience informed approach to the work that you do, and how best you can apply those principles to staff wellbeing for yourself and your colleagues. There will be opportunities to notice and contribute where your own actions are already aligned with trauma and resilience informed principles and to try out some practical tips that support wellbeing for yourself, your colleagues and the students in your care.
The opportunity to hear from the account management team from The Wellbeing Hub on tips and techniques to best engage your school community with the breadth of training, support and resources. You will also be able to discuss what you have found to be useful within your school and hear from colleagues in break-out sessions.
We will be joined by Patrick Foster for a session around the prevalence of online addictions and the importance of being able to instil in young people, from an early age, the skills to understand and manage them. Patrick will draw on his own story of addiction, look at the importance of digital wellbeing today and explore the current trends and issues with 'modern day' gambling through video gaming, crypto trading and other platforms. There will also be the opportunity to hear about warning signs and signposting for support.

Hear from Helen Keevil on how to support young people with neurodiverse traits in a school setting. This talk will cover the key 3 pillars of how we can encourage our young people to be digitally resilient, the why, the how and the where in terms of schools supporting parents and pupils to be brave, bold and a little bashful, no matter how different we all are to one another.

With Alicia Drummond, we will look at how research from the DSM Foundation shows that vaping has now overtaken alcohol and smoking in terms of popularity amongst 15-18-year-olds, and 70% of the 6,500 pupils surveyed named it as the substance they think is causing their peers the most problems. In this session, we will look at the latest data and research around vaping, and explore how schools are tackling the issue. Following the session, The Wellbeing Hub will create a guide to share best practices.

Speaker Information:

Dr Natalie Edelman RGN BSc MA PhD - Dr Natalie Edelman is an independent consultant at TRuST. Her expertise lies in the integration and application of trauma-informed and resilience-informed approaches to delivery and evaluation of health and social care and education. Dr Edelman is also a certified Trauma-informed coach and a University academic - her research focuses on trauma-informed approaches to addressing social inequalities, domestic abuse, mental health, substance use and allied topics.

Patrick Foster - Patrick is a former professional cricketer, insurance broker, and independent schoolteacher whose life was torn to shreds by his pathological gambling addiction. Having been driven to the brink by problem gambling, Patrick now shares his journey with young people and their parents who may be experiencing similar difficulties, inspiring them to have the courage and confidence to reach out for help. He is the author of the bestselling book Might Bite: The Secret Life of a Gambling Addict, his brutally honest account of over a decade of pathological gambling addiction to recovery and beyond.

Helen Keevil - Helen is the Deputy Head Pastoral & DSL at Abingdon School with a particular focus on e-safety, EDI & wellbeing. She’s been a boarding HMM, Head of Year and Head of Department and a member of SLT in two large independent schools. As a multi-linguist, she uses IT in the classroom to deliver interactive lessons in French, German & Spanish whilst promoting independent as well as collaborative styles of learning. She trains senior student digital mentors, and peer mentors of various ages and delivers regular INSET to teachers, gap students, parents & matrons on pastoral issues, safeguarding & e-safety updates.

Alicia Drummond - Alicia is a BACP-accredited psychotherapist, parent coach, speaker, author and founder of The Wellbeing Hub. Alicia is passionate about providing evidence-based advice, support and resources to help parents, staff and pupils deepen their understanding of adolescence, and promote emotional health and wellbeing.

Sarah Fletcher - Sarah has been The High Mistress at St Paul’s for the last 7 years and also teaches History. She has had the privilege to teach in a number of schools at home and abroad, boarding, day, single-sex, co-educational, state and independent. She has a strong interest in curriculum reform and in encouraging creativity in teaching & learning. She values the opportunity to work in partnership and believes strongly in the importance of sharing and collaboration as the most important foundation for a more innovative and enlightened future.

Lizzie Beesley - Lizzie is the Deputy Head, Director of Pastoral Care at St Paul's Girls'. She is a teacher of English and is responsible for the pastoral team including Head of Years, Tutors and Wellbeing Team as well as being a DDSL. She is also in charge of staff welfare, both for admin staff, as well as for teachers. In terms of students, it is her job to oversee them all pastorally and to try and ensure that they are as happy and successful as they can be whilst at school.
