Aims:
This short course aims to:

  • Provide an understanding of the accounting information which needs to be included on a UK VAT Return.


Content:

The roll out of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) reporting is focusing on VAT data. As a starting point it’s important to understand what information should be reflected on your organisation’s VAT Return. Charities will also be required to submit their VAT data digitally from the April 2019 start date which impacts on any VAT registered entity.

This short course aims to remind or introduce individuals with the VAT reporting responsibility or IT professionals unfamiliar with VAT to the reporting requirements that will need to be in place at April 2019.

The training methods will be presentation led with practical examples and a relaxed approach to allow questions to be asked as issues arise.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this session, you will learn about................

The VAT accounting information that needs to be included in a UK VAT Return and in which box on the return the data should appear:

  • Output Tax liabilities including Reverse Charges, Scale Charge Adjustments
  • Recoverable Input Tax – items and costs blocked from recovery
  • What is Box 2 meant to include
  • Where Bad Debt Adjustments go
  • Journal adjustments arising from Partial Exemption, Capital Goods Scheme etc
  • Accurate Data reporting in the net value Sales and Purchases boxes

This course is for

  • Finance staff who complete the VAT Return
  • IT Staff involved in ensuring the accurate processing of data in accounting software systems – whether inhouse or from commercial software providers
  • Accountants who take the responsibility for the completion of their client’s VAT Returns.

The round table discussion format encourages participants to share common practical concerns and experiences.
