Event description
Learn about geometrical design processes used at the medieval church of St Mary, Nantwich in Cheshire, England.

About this event

Join in with this workshop where you will learn how to lay out the design of a medieval vault at St Mary’s Church, Nantwich following the approach used by medieval masons.

You will learn some of the basic geometrical methods employed by medieval designers and find out about masons’ drawing practices.

This workshop requires no previous knowledge of medieval architecture or geometry, just willing-ness to try things out and have fun! You will end up with some designs that you can continue at your leisure if you don’t finish within the session itself. The patterns we create will help you to identify similar design processes used in other medieval buildings.

Anyone who signs up for this workshop by the deadline of 11th May 2021 will be sent a workshop pack consisting of a printed template, compasses and ruler.
