Vauxhall Constituency Labour Party warmly invites you to our next fundraising dinner at EV Restaurant on Tuesday 20th March, from 7:30pm.


We are delighted that Andrew Gwynne MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government and Jon Ashworth MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Health will be joining us as our guest speakers. You can read their biographies below.


There will also be a raffle and auction on the night.

It should be a lovely evening, with great food and good conversation, and it will provide a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones too.

Andrew’s biography :

Andrew was first elected to Parliament in the General Election of 2005, as the new Labour Member of Parliament for the Denton and Reddish constituency in Greater Manchester. Andrew was then re-elected at the 2010, 2015 and 2017 General Elections.


Briefly about Andrew:

•43 years old, married with 3 children and lives in Denton, where he grew up

•Educated in the constituency at Egerton Park High School, then at Tameside College, North East Wales Institute and Salford University

•Served as a Labour Councillor on Tameside MBC between 1996 and 2008, representing the Denton West Ward

•A member of Unite the Union, the GMB, the Co-operative Party and Christians on the Left

•Between June 2009 and May 2010, Andrew served as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families


Parliamentary Career

•Andrew served as the PPS to the Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Jacqui Smith MP from July 2007 – June 2009 and to the Rt Hon Baroness Scotland of Asthal QC, between November 2005 – July 2007

•Previously served as a Shadow Minister for Transport, covering passenger transport, between October 2010 and October 2011

•Held the Shadow Health Minister post from October 2011 – September 2015 and Shadow Public Health Minister between September 2015 – 2016

•In 2016 Andrew was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet, as Shadow Minister without Portfolio.

•Coordinated Labour’s 2017 General Election campaign alongside Ian Lavery MP as Labour Party Co-National Campaign Coordinator

•Now serve on the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government.



Jon’s biography :

Jon Ashworth (born 14 October 1978) is a Labour and Co-operative party politician re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Leicester South in 2017 General Election. He was elected to the seat in a by-election on 5 May 2011 following the resignation of his predecessor Peter Soulsby who stepped down to run for office as Mayor of Leicester.[1] He was an adviser to Gordon Brown and head of party relations for Ed Miliband.[2]
