Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

This is an opportunity to hear from knowledgeable speakers, discuss key issues and network with your peers.

This is a free event and is open to Kingston’s VCS, as well as organisations that partner with them.

The day will be split into two parts…..

Morning session: Beyond the box tick: how can real voices influence change in Kingston?

Whether influencing a change in policy, shaping community services, changing public opinion or re-imagining your own mission and activities, real voices matter. And listening simply isn’t enough.

This event will explore how we can build greater equality in our relationships with the state, funders and sector leaders - and the communities we are here to serve.

Find out how you can empower your beneficiaries to tell their stories, their way. You’ll hear from two local charities that have been working with their beneficiaries to shape local services – and the challenges they have encountered along the way.

You’ll then discover how to frame stories in a way that recognises our instinctual and attitudinal decision-making processes. With top tips you’ll learn how to get better at telling stories that can determine your desired outcome.

Finally we take a look at a consensus decision-making methodology that can help you take decisions in a way that is constructive and collaborative, reflecting the values and knowledge of everyone and which build a greater sense of ownership of the final outcomes.

This is a fast-paced, interactive event that offers expert masterclasses and discussion to help you influence the change you want to see. Masterclasses are taster sessions for practical training sessions to be delivered in early 2018.

This is a free event for chief executives and managers of small charities and community organisations in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Afternoon session: The future of civil society in Kingston

The afternoon session will be an open discussion on the future of civil society in Kingston. This will feed into the NAVCA conference on December 5th, which in turn will be shared with the Civil Society Futures independent inquiry chaired by Julia Unwin, you can read her call for input from charities here.

This is an opportunity for us to take some time to think about what our vision for future society looks like, and the challenges and opportunities we face.

Who should attend the day

Chief executives, project managers and staff with marketing and communications responsibilities in charities and community groups in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. This is a free event to support the Voluntary and Community Sector Strategy.

There are a limited number of tickets for statutory partners working closely with the voluntary and community sector in Kingston. However, please note that if demand is high from local charities and community organisations we may ask you to give up your place for a VCS group.
