After 20 Years of VCTs, Where Are We And What Comes Next?
Financial advisers and wealth managers are invited to join leading providers, practitioners and industry commentators for practical insights, timely updates and expert guidance on how to optimise Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs)
· In the 20 years since they were created, VCT funds and managers have proliferated – so how do you choose the best for your clients?
· Few other investments can provide tax free gains and income along with the liquidity that comes with a stock market listing – but how do you match good products with suitable clients?
Why Should You Attend?
Designed for advisers already active in VCTs, this half day Masterclass will provide the technical knowledge to help you add value for your clients. With lower annual and lifetime pension allowances and new pension freedoms, tax efficient investments are forming an increasingly important part of advisers’ propositions.. By attending you will earn 3 hours of structured CPD and guidance on how to best use VCTs, with:
· Practical case studies from experienced practitioners
· Tips on what advisers should look for in the investment prospectus
· Advice on client segmentation and writing suitability reports for VCTs
· Insight from the investment managers on how they run their portfolios
· Discussion of HMRC's reaction to the budget and current uncertainty
The Line Up...
Our most impressive line-up of speakers to date will present a range of insightful perspectives on VCT:
Keynote speaker Ian Sayers, Chief Executive of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), will set the scene with an introduction to the regulatory and legislative outlook for VCTs. This will be explored in more depth by Chris Moakes, Senior Associate of PwC and Will Bateman, Senior Solicitor of DWF LLP who will offer their own qualified perspectives on the impact of European state aid rules, new pension freedoms, and the HRMC's clampdown on avoidance. Tony Mudd, Divisional Director of St James’s Place will present a practitioner’s perspective on VCTs while Damian Davies, Strategic Director of The Timebank will address the challenges faced by advisers when compiling suitability reports, and how to overcome them.
Avoiding the usual product pitches, leading fund managers will offer insights on product selection to help advisers match the right investment to the right type of client.Triplepoint will present the questions advisers should ask when sourcing VCT products; Diane French, Business Development Director of Octopus will talk about the advantages of generalist and specialist (non-AIM) VCTs; Eliot Kaye, Investment Director of Puma Investments will explore the benefits of Limited Life VCTs; and Chris Hutchinson, Director of Unicorn AM will compare closed fund structures with Open Ended Investment Companies.
Feedback on previous Masterclass events:
“This was an excellent event. Professional organisation - important subject matter, no padding and high quality speakers giving clear messages on a broad range of alternative investment options.”
Brendan Llewellyn, Director, Adviser Home
“Excellent format for the event. Punchy and to the point presentations from the most important providers in the BPR market and experts that understand why this is a vital part of full IHT planning. Not the first Intelligent Partnership event I’ve been to and hopefully not the last.”
The VCT masterclass is a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of the leading practitioners in the VCT industry. Our speaker panel represents the depth and diversity of expertise that is available to advisers in this sector.
